3D Poposal

3D proposal.

Claymation

I am proposing to create a 3D animated short using the plasticine characters for the animation.  The work will be distributed through web outlets such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook etc.

Audience
This project will be aimed at the target audience above the age and above due to the. The audience will like this as they watch entertaining things such as Lego animation and comedians performing.

The style will be a short film showing life under the sea for a turtle and his friend. This will be part of a series and there will be random events that will be occurring throughout the different episodes. The characters are different colours so the viewer can see the difference in the characters and again the colours are different to the background colours. It will be colourful, as it will have a funny voice over for the characters.

To make this animation I will be using plasticine, moving different parts of the body of the turtles. I will create the movement through the ease of the maneuverability of the plasticine characters so the movement will be shown fluently.

My inspiration was Wallace and Gromit because of the design and how they were the first plasticine characters to be made.  Another big influence was the character of morph that I saw for the first time on ``Art Attack’’

To make it run smooth it must be taken with at least 12 frames per second and last along the time of 15 seconds up to the length of around a minute. It will be taken with the camera on the tripod due to it being a 3D image animation so I have created a background setting of the ocean with various sea creatures in the background.

In the Claymation there will be a lot of things
Time
15 seconds to 1 minute

2D Evaluation

Evaluation

When editing the film on imovie i added various sound effects and moved the fight scene into two parts. it was a good idea as it kept the viewers attention in a sort of cliffhanger style to make them want to watch more. when i first produced it it didn't have any sound effects that consisted with speech so when redesigning it i added the speech.

I was reluctant to recording the speech due to not liking the sound of my own voice when listening to it when it has been recorded.

The video is now posted on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8CV6VIdo_I

Please can you leave a comment for the feedback on the Youtube video.  Please consider: genre, style, narrative, character, techniques, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, creative qualities.

3D scenery

Scenery

When designing my scenery for the 3D animation i was going to make my characters in the style of teenage mutant turtles so I was going to design a sewer using a cardboard box.

However when thinking on that idea I decided to change my idea to just do a design of an ocean  with the turtles.

Within the background I made a blue ocean effect and added still images of fish and various aquatic creatures making it seem natural for when I will use the IStop motion to create my shory film.

In the foreground I will have the two turtles who will be talking on the sea bed.

2D Storyboard

Storyboard

Whilst doing my storyboard I had a bit of a play around with making my characters do actions and trying to think of a sort of storyline for each of the sketches. When doing my storyboard i designed it as if i was going to do all of my first shown sketch all together although i split it up when editing it on iMovie. I then went on to draw my dirty dancing sketch with ease. This sketch saw the female character being held up in the air like the famous lift in the actual film, however in this sketch he then dropped her and walked away. In the final sketch there was a child playing with a ball where the ball that he kicks comes back at him and knock him over.

With the shot numbers which were written on the side of the storyboard i wrote them down in order in which they will be shown during the movie when finished.

3D claymation characters

3D Claymation Characters

When deciding on creating a 3D animation made out of clay I decided to make the characters and then add a story line afterwards. During my last time when using plasticine to make the character of morph I was unable to create him and design anything as I wasn't confident enough with using plasticine.

During today when using plasticine i felt more confident than last time and from this i decided to create animals rather than people and decided to create a turtle that could eventually stand up. my first turtle character was very hard to make as at the start i couldn't get the clay to stay warm and keep moving it and adjusting it.

When testing to see f it could stand up i noticed that the arms and legs weren't equal in length and the body couldn't support itself so i broke them off and made them so they would be stronger and withstand the weight they would be holding.

I used a different colour when designing my second character and as i didn't want to make it similar as people could get mixed up with which character is which. The colour i used was a yellow and it was surprisingly easy to mold into the character and with this character i made all of the parts separately and put holes and a type of screw to fit into the hole and then covered round it with more plasticine.

2D animation filming

Before being able to film my 2D animation I had to find a subject on what to base my animation on i had already chosen to do something along the lines of stick man and i had a lot of different ideas that were cropping up from inspiration like Mr Miyagi and Karate Kid, also Dirty Dancing. I decided to do sketches of the characters for the different ideas as i already had an idea on the storyline for the different sketches.

Designing the characters were very difficult as every character had different aspects from hair to a different body shape to express the type off people they were. I had to redesign and redraw the characters as i put one sketch of them on cardboard which was to thick and i used paper but that curled up after being coloured in. Finally i decided to use black card when designing my characters for the third time, which ended up being the best idea on creating the characters.

Before starting my cutout animation i had to set up a camera by attaching the camera to a animation stand whilst setting the camera up i put a white sheet of paper underneath and when I turned it on the white balance had been set up wrong so i had to balance it to make it look normal as the white was a tint of orange. Because of the darkness of the room i had to rig up some copy lights that lit up the paper evenly brightening it up.

When filming the cutout animation it became difficult as the characters were hard to move because the pieces were small and thin. another thing that was bad was that the movement wasn't smooth enough because of the body moving when the legs and arms were supposed to be moved and not the body at that time however when i realised my errors from then i made it look and seem a lot smoother when filming at 12fp/s

One of my sketch ideas was to do a type of style of kung fu fighting between and elderly man and a young foolish man that wanted to make a name for himself and when he challenged the elderly he was re-payed in death. I wanted it to be ironic and a sketch that in the real world would probably never happen and i gave it my twist to the sketch. Furthermore my second sketch was a mock take of the 1980's hit dirty dancing where they did the famous lift and during the sketch they commence the lift and then she is thrown over him and he walks as if that was it. My last sketch was of a young child playing with a ball that is twice the size of him and when kicked comes back at him and because of his little stature is taken away with the ball.

When editing my rough copy of my final 2D piece i got a feel for the music that i was likely to include within my final animation film that would make it entertaining and enjoyable. I will be making my own sounds for the kung fu sketch as it was hard to find the classic kung fu shouts e.g. Hiiiyyaaa, Hwwoaaa and others.

2D Proposal

Animation Proposal
 2D

Working title:   ‘Stick Man Animation’

Medium
I am proposing to create a 2D animated short using the medium of cutout animation.  The work will be distributed through web outlets such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook etc.

Audience
This project will be aimed at the target audience of young teenagers as they watch entertaining thing such as Lego animation and -  tell me what other things they watch

The style will be a trailer showing multiple clips that will be part of the episodes to come and they will be random event that will be occurring further on within the future of the series of episodes. Even though the characters will be black in colour the white background will make it seem brighter and it will be comical, as it will have a funny voice over.  -  The style is the visual style and the atmosphere and tone of the piece.

To make this animation I will be using paper or card, making separate pieces of the body of the stickman. I will create the movement through the separate pieces so the movement will be

To make it run smooth it must be taken with at least 12 frames per second and last along the time of 15 seconds up to the length of around a minute. It will be taken as a flat image due to it being a 2D image animation.

Summary of content - tell me what will happen in the story line.

In the stickman animation there will be a compilation of different sketches. Within the first 10 seconds there will be a fight scene that will be carried on at around 30 seconds. Another sketch will be a take of dirty dancing where Patrick Swayze crumbles underneath the lift of baby and that will be the 2nd sketch. At around 40 seconds until the end I want to show the third sketch, which will consist of a stick kid playing with a ball and making it comical by adding a series of events.

Time
15 seconds to 1 minute

2D animation final product IDEAS

2D Ideas

Doing my proposal was quite tough as i didn't understand some of the terminology used on the help sheet that was provided on 'writing a proposal'. Writing down the summary of content was difficult as it made me really  think on the sketches i would be doing.

Previously to doing this i had to had an idea period where the proposal idea came from. Through making my decision as the stick man animation i went through a process of creating a list of ideas of seeing if they were compatible in either 3d or 2d and if they were simple enough to include in a short space of time.

After deciding on the ideas that were accomplish-able within the given time period i whittled it down to two for the 2D animation and two for the 3D animations.
my first 2D idea was to create a frogger game where he would jump to logs across the water and once finished he would increase to another level but it would be boring as he would complete the levels.

my idea which i am going to do is a stick man animation and i chose this as i can make the limbs and show the movement fluently, its easy to adapt and make new situations that the stick characters will be involved in.
